The project “Simulating Caucasus” passed on the method of simulation gaming and a particular simulation game to local trainers from the Northern Caucasus and THK-alumnus from Russia. After the introduction to the method of simulation gaming, the second part of the project was test run of a simulation game. In order to use the skills which were learned during the ToT. Due to the participation in this project the trainers learned1) how to use the method in local contexts and thus develop their own simulation games and 2) how to apply the method in order to provide civic engagement opportunities. As this project builds capacities among key actors (local trainers) the impact of the project lasts beyond project duration itself.

Target Group

This project was aimed at capacity building of local trainers in the field of non-formal education from the Northern Caucasus region. They had socio-political interest, some experience in active citizenship education and organizational background. The trainers got trained in one particular simulation, which they were able to conduct themselves in the aftermath of the project and got enough theoretical knowledge and experiences to train others in this particular simulation game. The content of this project was dedicated to local trainers who wanted to deepen their knowledge on non-formal education and are ready to enhance their toolkit by a potential method for political and civic education. For the test run at the end of the practice meeting the participants were chosen from alumni of JCE New Horizons 2012-2014, local youth officials and NGO actors from the Northern Caucasian Republics.

Project Goals

With the help of this project we wanted to activate local young people and create conditions for their involvement into real social activity and decision making process. Thus the goals of the project were as follows: 1) To create a practical platform for learning methodological skills and practical implementation of simulation games for 15 participants 2) To create opportunities for 20 young leaders to take part in a simulation game; 3) To create a platform for capacity building within key actors\trainers in the region; 4) To create conditions for multiplying the experience in conducting simulation games within the Northern Caucasus region; 5) To raise public awareness on the innovative technologies of youth engagement.
