Kick-off Meetings of the Project Supporting a New Constitution in Chile

On May 14th and 28th CRISP successfully hosted two official Kick-Off meetings of the project “Voces jóvenes participan en el proceso constituyente”, which aims to empower marginalized youth in Chile to actively participate in the Constitutional process currently taking place.

This project is developed in partnership with the Defensoría de la Niñez, several universities and Civil Society Organizations in Chile. All partners participated in the virtual meetings and agreed on the final details of the project implementation. After the enriching and lively sessions, everything is now set to officially begin with the development of this unique initiative.

The project takes place in parallel to the constitutional drafting process during 2021/20221. In the first stage, youth between 16 and 18 years old will participate in a series of Online-Simulation-Game Workshops, through which they will have the space to critically think about their needs and expectations, and to share them with their peers. Such expectations will be analyzed, clustered and evaluated and then, in the course of public debates, they will be presented to members of the Constitutional Convention.

In the second stage, once there is a new constitution, the activities will center around promoting the New Constitution among the marginalized youth, and explaining their rights and duties therein stipulated.
Moreover, the project creates an Online Platform for Political Participation (OPPP) that provides a sustainable digital space for constructive and moderated nationwide dialogue among youth. With this platform, young people will have a mechanism through which they will be able to transfer their opinions, ideas, and expectations to decision-makers during the project duration and beyond.
This one-of-its-kind project seeks to contribute to increasing social cohesion and building long-lasting peace in Chile.
