Peace Support in Yemen- Arabia Felix Simulation Game

A tailor-made simulation game with the aim of strengthening the local capacities of Yemeni youth in peacebuilding and conflict transformation

The Simulation game aims to help changemakers further develop their skills and abilities to deal with conflicts and learn how to make an active difference in their communities.

Furthermore, the simulation game tackles the overall topic of peaceful coexistence and conflict transformation, by undertaking this activity the target audience will be capacitated to use novel approaches to generate innovative ideas for peace projects. Participants will discuss and experiment facets of peaceful coexistence, strengthening their peace capacity directly on a local level.  A number of cross-cutting topics will also be included; such as sustainability, working in fragile contexts, do no harm and gender equality.

Project Goals 

The project aims directly and indirectly at achieving the following objectives:

Strengthening Yemeni local capacities for peace to promote peaceful co-existence, strengthening the participation of women in the peace process and post-conflict agenda, promoting the use of conflict-sensitive communication methods, sstrengthening institutional and professional capacities of selected NGOs and academic institutionsconducting public relation campaign.  

Target Group 

The project targets Yemini youth from different segments; that being, men, women, people with disabilities, IDPs and/or refugees, marginalized groups and other disadvantaged groups between the age of 16 to 35. 

Activities 

We have 3 core activities.

First, a kick-off workshop will take place where the team will develop a roadmap and agrees on constant monitoring of the most crucial factors for implementation, such as selection and management of participants, achievement of learning goals, team-management, financial management, and the Yemeni security situation (specifically the relation between the conflict parties but also the interrelation of experts, participants, local governments, and other influential municipal actors).

Secondly, simulation game development, which will be based upon the feedback from partners as well as findings found through desktop reviews.

This will be followed by a training of trainers to ensure smooth implementation and facilitation of the simulation game through the provision of feedback and final polishing of content.

After the training of trainers, the previously trained trainers will implement the simulation game in a total of 10 workshops.  The simulation game will capacitate Yemeni youth with the skills and knowledge to be able to make and implement effective peacebuilding and conflict resolution approaches through simulation-based learning, which is an interactive technique that replicates experience and evokes substantial aspects of the real world for practice and assessment of practical skills and knowledge. The simulation game will also focus on cross-cutting topics alongside peacebuilding and conflict transformation such as sustainability, fragile context awareness and adaptability, do-no-harm . During the game, the participants will experience their value and witness them firsthand, without directly talking about the underlying concepts.  

Outcomes/Achievements 

The project as a whole, including the implementation of the simulation game, will have an everlasting impact on the Yemeni youth, by which it will nourish attitudes of inclusive peaceful coexistence amongst themselves to apply both in personal conflicts and in professional contexts. Additionally, the participants and beneficiaries’ power of judgment and their ability to act will be improved, hereby strengthening their personal development. Yemeni youth will also aquire the required skills to use constructive approaches to deal with multifaceted issues, including physical, psychological and social challenges.
