(East) African UN Youth Delegates and Representatives Shine at the UN General Assembly in New York

After much anticipation, our AUNYD project delegates and youth representatives have finally arrived in New York for the UN General Assembly High-Level Week. They've been hard at work, collaborating effectively, and making significant contributions to the global youth agenda. The delegation wasted no time, immersing themselves in intensive work and collaboration.

  • The African UN Youth Delegate and Representative Program AUNYD is not an official UN program. The UN Youth Delegate Program is driven and owned by UN Member States. Official Youth Delegates are always exclusively selected by UN Member States.  The civil society youth representatives we select at the AUNYD have a better chance to become national UN Youth Delegates through our training and support

During their time in the bustling city, the delegates and representatives had a packed schedule, participating in the SDG Action Weekend at the UN Headquarters. Some even had the honor of taking the podium at side events, sharing insights and experiences alongside representatives from other youth delegations, including Germany and Austria. Notably, Nadia from Uganda assumed the role of the youth rapporteur, presenting the outcomes of the action weekend in the chamber of ECOSOC.

Beyond the official events, the Delegates and Representatives seized the opportunity to establish invaluable contacts and strengthen their networks within the program. They pushed the ideas and demands of their mandates and found out which of them have the most chance of being realized in the coming years. Therefore, they did essential groundwork for the second team that has their tenure in October, and they paved the way for the years to come. The Delegates and Representatives also diligently pursued their individual agendas and plans, furthering their career aspirations.

The unwavering support from their team back home played a crucial role in their success. This collaboration between the Delegates, national delegations and Representatives highlighted the significant contributions they can make in advancing and enriching national youth interests on the global stage.

As the first group of delegates and representatives completes their mission, the excitement continues to build as the second group is set to arrive from October 8th to 15th. The AUNYD project's journey at the UN General Assembly promises to be a remarkable and transformative experience, demonstrating the impact of dedicated youth engagement on the international stage.
