Practising attitude: Konfliktsimulator at Berlin civic education forum

At the Berlin Agency for Civic Education's expert forum, 14 participants tested the AI-supported Konfliktsimulator and helped shape its next steps.

How can people practise their attitude in conflict without anything being at stake? CRISP explored this question on 13 October 2026 at the expert forum “A Question of Attitude? Political Participation in a Superdiverse Society”, hosted by the Berlin Agency for Civic Education (Berliner Landeszentrale für politische Bildung). In the workshop “AI Tools in Civic Education: The Example of Conflict Transformation”, 14 practitioners from community-oriented civic education tested the Konfliktsimulator.

The Konfliktsimulator is an AI-supported training tool, funded by the federal programme “Demokratie leben!” and scientifically accompanied by Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences. In Module 1, users mediate a conflict between two young people, Emma and Tom; after each round, an AI coach gives feedback. In the workshop, one person played while the other observed, then they swapped roles. At three stations, participants reflected on conversation skills, attitude and further development.

The conclusion was clear: AI offers great opportunities for civic education, and the Konfliktsimulator shows what new possibilities this creates. The key message the group took to the plenary: “Attitude can be practised, and AI creates safe spaces for this that did not exist before.” Participants want to keep using their test access, and the vast majority would recommend the Konfliktsimulator to friends and acquaintances.
They also contributed concrete ideas for new scenarios, such as conflicts within families that can be practised together with parents. These suggestions will feed into the tool's further development. We thank the Agency for the invitation.

The scientifically accompanied test phase runs until 30 November 2026 and is open to everyone working with children and young people. Take part: https://app.kosilabs.com/register?code=KOSI-OF26-1.
