Konfliktsimulator: Try the AI conflict training for free

Until 30 November 2026, professionals and volunteers can test free of charge how to practise handling conflicts with young people in the browser, risk-free.

Berlin, 20 October 2026. One boy pushes in at the front of the queue, another shoves him back. Two girls insult each other because one has taken the other's hat. For teachers, social workers, educators, coaches and volunteers, situations like these are part of everyday life. Until now, there has been hardly any way to practise them in a targeted way. Until 30 November 2026, anyone interested can try CRISP's Konfliktsimulator free of charge in a scientifically supported test phase.

According to the Berlin Conflict and Violence Barometer 2026, 45 percent of teachers and educational staff at public schools in Berlin feel heavily or very heavily burdened by conflict and violence. At schools facing high structural pressures, the figure is 64 percent.

In the Konfliktsimulator, users talk in their browser with two virtual young people who have fallen out, and try to mediate between them. An AI lets the characters respond to what is said, without a fixed script. After each round of around 15 minutes, an AI coach gives feedback on what worked and what will help next time.

"De-escalating and mediating well takes practice. In the Konfliktsimulator, you quickly notice how much a single sentence can change," says Andreas Muckenfuß, founder and director of CRISP. "The baseline analysis found the project's impact-oriented concept to be of high quality," says PD Dr Rainer Strobl of Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, which is evaluating the project. The test phase will now show whether the training strengthens people's ability to act in conflicts.

How to take part:

fill in a short questionnaire, play the Konfliktsimulator five times within ten days and answer a second questionnaire at the end. The survey is anonymous or pseudonymised. Register by 30 November 2026: https://survey-staff.ostfalia.de/index.php/237176?lang=de

The Konfliktsimulator was developed as an innovation project in the federal programme "Demokratie leben!" of the German Federal Ministry BMBFSFJ.
