The Diversify-Program aims to support socially disadvantaged young adults with ambitions to pursue a career in a political field, thus the participants were already familiar with many aspects of the political process in Germany. Nevertheless, they were able to learn a great deal about the often-overlooked process that is coalition negotiations from the simulation of party positions, political negotiations, and discussions in their respective roles during the game.
The participants were encouraged to compromise and find win-win solutions, both in terms of political issues, as well as in terms of career and governing ambitions, which fostered a better understanding of the complexity of coalition building and political processes. During the multiple discussion rounds participants were able to exchange and discuss up-to-date party positions in Germany and reflect on the mechanisms of finding a working government coalition.
KoSi served as a practical learning experience, that made coalition building in Germany tangible and by that enable the participants to navigate political negotiations. The cooperation with the “Diversify”-Program of the “Deutschandstiftung Integration” aimed at fostering the understanding of practical politics of the participants to further prepare them for their career in politics.
