Dialogue training in Augsburg – German-Ukrainian dialogue

How can dialogue succeed in times of social polarization? As part of the German-Ukrainian Dialogue Project, CRISP conducted an intensive three-day dialogue training course featuring practical tools, critical reflections, and lively role-playing. Fifteen participants explored how democratic dialogue remains possible even under difficult conditions.

From September 26 to September 28, 2025, CRISP organized a three-day dialogue training course as part of the German-Ukrainian Dialogue. The training focused on key questions: What characterizes democratic dialogue? Why is it essential for social coexistence? How can respectful exchange be achieved, even when the other party holds anti-democratic and anti-Ukrainian positions? And where are the legitimate limits of dialogical debate?

Specifically, the 15 participants examined key discussion strategies that enable constructive democratic dialogue. In addition to intensive discussions about the effectiveness of these techniques in countering anti-Ukrainian myths, the strategies were tested in practice in a detailed role-play exercise – so that the participants not only gained theoretical knowledge, but also developed concrete skills for dealing with difficult dialogues.
